Down trees.

With the violent storms that showed up Tuesday and knocked out power, there are a lot of downed trees around Hampden and Roland Park. A very very large branch came down in my parents’ yard in Hampden. It missed several cars, a shed, a pool, a garage, two dogs, people and powerlines. It only made a mess that we cleaned up with rakes, a bowsaw and two axes (yes, axes). Then we ate pizza, played Wiffleball and went swimming.

When our power went out in Roland Park, I started drinking all the beer in the fridge so (I told myself) it would not go bad. I think that’s funny. It was like three in the afternoon.

But another tree which is gone is the one that asshole hit with a truck a few weeks ago. I saw a sign from “The City” yesterday saying they were removing it, and it was gone last night. And some foam is left from his truck, too. I don’t know if I should send an angry letter to Subway, like they’ll do anything or like they care. They cost Baltimore City some money, though, when they have enough trees to clean up around here. I hope he’s not driving a truck anymore. That’s a scary thought.

I think that your drinking all the beer in the fridge, so that it wouldn’t go bad, serves your pragmatik nature very well.
Had that tree been injured by the storm, or was it just marked for removal to protect the embarrassed?

Nope, it was in a spot to get shielded from the wind. The city said its condition after the truck hit it was a public safety risk — whatever that means. :)

All one can do in the face of the loss of a tree, at the hands of the —-, is to drink warming beer.
It makes me sad.

It’s interesting. When I used to live in Rockville, whenever there was a storm, there’d be dozens of trees down. And my friend who lives in Hampden, had a few trees down on his block. But in Butcher’s Hill we had no downed trees. Just lots of hail! Freaked me out when I was driving down Baltimore St and the skyline was WHITE. It was like downtown had been engulfed by whiteness.

That hail was wild — I’d never seen hail like that around here. It made me glad to not own a car, but I don’t think it was big enough to dimple any hoods, luckily, lol.

I was talking to my sister-in-law’s father last night, and he said they didn’t get much of anything in Rosedale.

My brother said he was out in his yard in Hampden right after the storm and saw a news chopper stop overhead because there were so many trees down on that block of Elm Avenue. He was hoping to get on TV, but they had no power until 2:00 a.m. so he wouldn’t have been able to see it. It would have been funny if he mooned it:)
