Merry Christmas, yo.

[Larger.]

Unedited photo of the family Christmas tree. I scored a lot of awesome presents this year. And I am stuck with a quandary. Do I brag and ruin everyone else’s Christmases in retrospect? Or do I keep quiet?

I mean, will you feel badly if I brag about the little coffee maker for my office and the large Thermos?  The awesome winter cycling gear?  Two Hemingway related presents?  A gorgeous Walden edition?  Nice flannels?

You might.

So I will keep it to myself.

Merry late Christmas, if you’re into that thing.

Come on, Johnny, tell us what cool gifts you got !! :)

I will tell you what I got- a vintage 1923 Parker Duofold Senior fountain pen and pencil set, with the original box and papers in near mint condition, and a 1940 RailRoad-Grade Hamilton pocket watch.
And I got myself a pair of Lowa hiking boots and a North Face winter jacket.

OMG, you gotta get on Flickr dude so we can see that pocket watch:)
There’s a gorgeous pocket watch that literally runs in my Dad’s family that I’m always trying to get him to give me early:)

    Hi Johnny,
Found this blog when I was googling around, and thought you might find it of interest.
Happy New Year, and stay warm!

I wanna know what bike stuff you got? I got some internet gift cards to spend and am debating what kind of bike stuff I want to buy with it.

Oh… and your tree looks totally awesome!! Did Mrs. P do it, you, or both? I’m in charge of getting the tree up and assembled. Helping string the lights and the rest is all hers. I’m not even allowed to touch the ornaments.

    For winter cycling, I got:
    Thermos! ;)
    Warmer gloves
    Puffy orange vest
    Long Johns
    Warm socks
    Flannel shirts
    FENDERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I arrived at work this morning with sweaty hands and a liter of French press coffee in my backpack:)

Did you write it to Commute By Bike about winter commuting gear?

  9. Johnny says:

Thanks, Steven. It’s the tree at my parents’ house in Hampden. It’s artificial, with the lights already on.

Yeah, that was my question to Noah and his response. He’s got a great biking blog. I wonder if someone else can write more about biking? **ehhmm** ;) But then again I like the many faucets of Johnny as is.

Oh, and I love those Rankin Bass movies too. And I vehemently correct my wife every time she calls them claymation. They are not clay. It is stop motion animation!!

BTW… What is your favorite bike related accessory?

  11. Johnny says:

I’ve thought about why I am often quiet about cycling, and I thought it was to put that stuff on the NBBB site, but then I never get around to it:)

“The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus” is the greatest holiday special every created! My brother bought my other brother and I each the book it came from this year.

Favorite bike accessory? Crud, I can’t pick one! LOL When I’m hauling cargo, it’s my rack. As I sped through a cold and wet morning today on my way to work, it was my new fenders! :)

I would definitely not say lights, though. I think they are a necessity.
