Why do Canons crap on me?

I’ve only owned Canons once I got into digital cameras.  My first was a brick, but I loved it.  And I swear subsequent cameras have not taken photos that were quite as nice.  It did die, but after I had a replacement.  My next had a dead pixel that showed up as a white dot in every shot.  It’s replacement did.  And it’s replacement did.  So when I was, apparently, stupid enough to get another one (but with a totally different imaging chip), it did it again!  This time, it’s red. That makes dead pixels in four of five Canons I’ve owned, with the fifth dying itself totally.

This time, it actually happened when I was taking photos in a church Wednesday on a walking tour.  I can pinpoint the shot where it showed up, and it’s staying.

So I was, of course, up all night looking for replacements.  All the ones I like are getting replaced themselves this spring, which makes me want to wait.  But waiting months to get a camera when my old cameras all have dead pixels is just a painful thought.

I also lost my cell phone last night and didn’t know until a nice cyclist called me and told me several hours later.  It’s nice and awesome that someone is nice and awesome enough to do that.  But still.

Technology was not my friend yesterday; that’s for sure.

    Are you using Canon DSLRs?
A couple of my photographer friends have complained about problems with the sensors on Canon DSLR bodies too.
I have been a film buff all this time, and might just break down and buy a Nikon DSLR if I get enough Christmas money.

Nope, all Points and shoots. I’ve heard that about their SLRs also though.
    Damn them:)

folks say that the Nikon DSLRs are not as user friendly as the Canon DSLRs, but they are supposedly more reliable. Checkout http://www.nikonians.org the Nikon users forum, for info.
I have a friend who is a USNavy Combat Photographer. he finished a tour in Kabul and now is in Djibouti, and he says that after problems with Canon cameras, that all have been issued 2 Nikon D300 bodies apiece, and he says he hasnt had any problems with the D300s in over a year of daily use in some rather difficult circumstances.

I’ve been a fan of Nikon for a long time. My first SLR was a Nikon film body, so having lenses led me to the D100 when it came out. It has been a rock solid camera (especially considering that I’m not that good about cleaning it etc). About a year ago, there was a problem with the selector knob that moves it from Manual, to AP, SP or fully auto. It cost me about $350 to have it serviced, which made me think about getting a new body, but at $800 for the body that I wanted, fixing the D100 sounded like a bargain.

I’ve also had a Nikon Point and Shoot (S2) that I’ve had a lot of fun with. It’s great for toting around in your jeans pocket.

I’m not gonna be able to swing a SLR, that thanks for the pointers, guys! :)
I found a Nikon I kinda and a Fuji and Samsung. I hope I can find one in person, but I’m not thrilled about getting a camera that’s gonna have a new one out next month. The deals that are out there, however, dang…. :)

Johnny- looks at the classified ads on Nikonians.org and photo.net
There are guys selling off gear cheap all the time- folks with money, who are constantly upgrading to the latest and the best gear that has just been released by Nikon.
You might luck out and find say, lat year’s Nikon DSLR at a pretty good price.
