[...] (See part one. This somehow never got published last year!) But even if these are coincidences, they are remarkable coincidences and certainly merit the use of the name through giving it a meaning. [...]

Scout would be awesome. But then, that would obligate you to be an Atticus-level dad.

Since your looking at old school names have you considered Tabitha? I lost my daughter to a late term pregnancy difficulty and that would have been her name. I was however blessed with two boys. Your welcome to use what would have been my daughter name. Her middle name would have been Elycia. ( pronounced Alicia)

Came across your blog on Blogtimore.

We're in Charles Village and have a 21-month-old named Ruth. Biblical in that super-Biblical way, but also my late paternal grandmother's name.

My husband's a PhD in philosophy. He's at University of Maryland now, teaching in the grad school of public policy (applied ethics). I hope you're nearing the end of your dissertation, if you're in the writing stage.

I had Ruth at University of Maryland with the midwives but hear great things about Mercy too. Good luck with your daughter.

If we'd named her Scarlet, Mrs. P wanted to call her Scout, which is eerily close. :)
Now I'm hungry. :)
